I don’t respect Cindy McCain. Arizona Sen. John McCain, has admitted that his wife not only illegally used drugs but walked away from criminal charges. The McCains have worked to make Cindy McCain's addiction into a political asset--despite the fact that she stole the drugs from a charity she directed and used them while mothering four young children. If any other woman in the United States would have faced stiff legal action and most likely would have lost custody of her children. I believe the McCain’s abused power to avoid Cindy facing any serious repercussion and for that I zero respect for them. She was the privileged wife of a prominent family and spouse of an important politician, a person who had her own position of prestige and power. Should she not be held at least as accountable for her actions as an uneducated inner-city drug user? After all, she could enter drug treatment at any time she chose, unlike many drug users who find themselves in prison. Moreover, Mrs. McCain was violating a position of trust by stealing from a charitable organization, using its money and medical expertise to fuel her drug use. Is this not morally more reprehensible than simply purchasing drugs illegally?
John McCain is a big supporter in the drug war. He advocates stricter drug penalties, laws and enforcement against drug sellers. Obviously McCain also supports family values. Yet if John and Cindy McCain were regular 'Joe Schmos', they might not have a family at all. McCain's lack of concern for street drug users contrasts sharply with the support and understanding his wife received. How is that fair?

They always say, "this is the most important blah blah of our time."
Well maybe it is, and maybe it isn't. But this team of Drexel University students will get into it summer of 2008 (while we're not at the beach, or soaking up the free AC at the library)...
Get into IT.
Into the nooks and crannies, the issues the media has forgotten because a cat got stuck in a tree, or a congressman was caught with his pants down.
Issues not invective.

Finally! You said it very well, CINFG. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person who was not overly impressed with Cindy McCain. Some of the other posters are calling her independent and strong because she suffered through two miscarriages and raised her children on her own, etc. I know many women who do not have access to .01% of the resources she has who have managed to raise successful children truly on their own, but who NEVER stole or used drugs to get through. As you stated, 'any other woman in the United States would have faced stiff legal action... and... would have lost custody of her children'. The norm in this country seems to be that the wealthy don't have to suffer the hard consequences the rest of us do when we mess up. They are lauded for sharing their stories with the rest of us (as if we could REALLY learn anything from them).
I'm not player-hatin' on her for coming from a wealthy family, but I don't consider you independent when the money you have came from the work of others (namely, family or spouses). As for strength, if she was a REAL strong woman, she would have just dealt with it without the use of drugs. When/If she found herself in the position where she was relying on painkillers to get through the day, she could have/should have, as you stated, entered drug treatment. But she would have NEVER considered stealing anything from anybody or manipulating people to get what she wanted. STRONG women deal. They may cry in the wee hours of the night wondering how they are going to make it but they wake up the next morning and keep it moving. They do not steal. Unfortunately, though, many of them are not the wives of important politicians or come from prominent families so they don't get to share their stories with the rest of us.
I'm glad you agree. I agree with your statement that strong woman make the effort to make ends meet, and then cry about it in the wee hours of the morning. I believe she abused her power and influence without facing any legal action. Now that her husband is running for president, she has to run every past discretion through a spin-cycle, turning every illegal action into a life lesson. that’s total BS. How dare she criticize Michelle Obama for her comment about being proud of her country? When did it become wrong for American citizens to state what/how they feel? How could a young Michelle not be proud of a country that featured segregation, inept Vice Presidents (Google Cheney and hunting), disappointing responses to natural disasters (Google FEMA and Hurricane Katrina), and unnecessary wars, while totally ignoring the genocide in Darfur? I am sure that people who gave their lives during the Civil Right Movement, the children suffering in Darfur, the people who waited patiently for FEMA in New Orleans for 5 days, and the countless soldiers fighting the wars can understand why Michelle Obama wasn't proud of her country. At least she wasn't a pill popping animal!
As far as I am concerned, John McCain is no better than Cindy. After being released from Vietnam’s infamous ‘Hanoi Hilton’ prison, McCain divorced his recently wife, who had been horribly disfigured in a terrible car crash three years earlier.

I believe Cindy McCain is best suited as being a recovering addict married to a senile old man. I think Google Earth is the closest they should be able to view the White House.
I'd like to give the McCain's just a few more options of exposure to the White House:

...or they can try their luck with the White House board game:

In light of both of your comments, I'd also like to comment on the posters that Cindy McCain is featured on... they all recognize her 'Independence' and 'Strength'... but nowhere in those two words, even if I were to jumble them up and rearrange the letters, lies the word 'Honest'. And that is something our country needs, and I feel should take primary importance over independence and strength (two qualities of which can be developed over time, as opposed to one that is innate).
And as far as the case goes, Michelle vs. Cindy: Stop Insulting My Love for This Country... if you play Cindy McCain's verbal attacks and comments, towards Michelle Obama, backwards... it actually says: "My husband and I are weak, and only feel victorious by badmouthing other politicians... Where did I hide that stash of mine?"
splendid post. and trust me, I hardly ever say 'splendid'.
Maybe they can take their family on a trip to DC and go on of those White House tours. I think McCain should be a copy of the ballot with his and Obama's name on it as a souvenir. I think Obama would be gracious enough to autograph it.
