intro
McCain
The more I read about Mrs. McCain the more I was inclined to see her as a first lady. I don't know about the rest of the people who live and are involved in this election but I would like to see a mother who has gone out of her way to help others and seems very caring. Even though I am making the assumption that she is this way without ever having meet her. But I feel I have read enough about her to believe that she is sincere and also believe that her husband has the same attributes as well.
Touching on the subject that another student stated, her first encounter with Mr. McCain was in fact when he was separated. Although some believe that because he was officially divorced it is considered adulteress. I believe that when two people are separated and have moved on with their own lives that it is alright to date. Having seen how a divorce works myself, it is very hard to sit back while the divorce process goes through, because of the long process that the two individuals have no control over. Therefore dating while"separated" isn't not adulteress in any way. Also Mr. McCain's ex had nothing but good things to say about him as a person which coming from an ex-wife is very uncommon.
Overall I thought this article was surprisingly interesting and informative considering I did not have any clue about our possible first lady.
Big Business Brewing: Another White House Scandal
I find it to be coincidental that the Bushes took their family oil business with them to the White House, which resulted in two invasions of Iraq, one of the largest oil producing countries in the world. The Bushes clearly claimed their reasoning for the invasion of Iraq was 'because of the atrocities committed against the Kuwaities' and then 'the democritization of Iraq.' Cleverly enough, through this premeditated war, Bush built tactical alliances with Saudi Arabia, another leading oil-exporting country.
Oh, and who could forget the contracts that Halliburton received? Here is another coincidence... our vice president at the time was the former CEO of Halliburton from the years 1995- 2000. He also continues to receive financial compensation from them, as well as lucrative stock options. Is it any wonder that they were granted a “ no-bid” contract worth $ 7 billion over 5 years? (I think not.)
How do all of these coincidences tie in with Cindy McCain? Ironically enough, ‘ Cindy is the chairman and majority owner of her family’s beer business… the largest Anheuser-Busch distributorships in this country.’ Of course, this would seem insignificant, had Bush Sr., Bush Jr., and Cheney not taken advantage of their high political positions to ensure financial success for themselves. They did this sufficiently by positively affecting various companies and industries, which could only benefit them. Selfish? (I think so). Because restrictions on alcohol are very uncompromising, I believe McCain’s presidency would result in diminishing regulatory controls on alcohol, thereby altering societal perceptions on drinking.
If McCain becomes president, I’m sure his wife will have significant influence over his presidential decisions. (I definitely see a future with even more drinking adds, a reduced drinking age, & a cut on alcohol taxes. The McCain’s stand to get even richer. Well, at least someone’s got society’s interest as their top priority.)
Intro and McCain life
I don't really follow politics all that much but I do know a little about whats going on. As for Mrs. McCain I have a lot of respect for what she has been able to do on her own. For someone who is set for life financially she completely went out of her way to make a difference in the world and go beyond what she needed to do. Even though she made mistakes with the abuse of pain-killers she still made it a point to do the right thing. For someone who pretty much never saw her husband she stayed loyal and stuck by whatever he chose to do as well as supported him. The part about politics I hate the most is the defaming technique politicians use to make their opponents look bad even if the person they are defaming isn't the one running. I felt bad for Mrs. McCain and her child. She is very brave to go through the ordeal of having a private life turned into a public tv show, in which every aspect of her life is picked apart. Me personally i don't think I would be able to handle being in the spot light the way she has been. Even through all she has been through she has found a way to learn from every experience and use that to better prepare herself for future situations.

My Girl Cindy
Shoot, I forgot....
I hope to learn much from this class, as much as I hope someone learns from me.
I am politically inept, I am trying to learn as much as Mr McCann is (I am probably worse) but I hope to get something out of this experience. I look forward to getting feedback on my posts from everyone, constructive criticism would be appreciated.
and errr.....Does our teacher know who posts what? *saint wanna be*
Mrs McCain
Not that I can relate to her, given that I am still young and I barely have a feel of life but she is definitely someone I would want to be like when I get older (I know its cliched and all), without the stroke, loneliness and illness that is, but I guess these things made her the strong woman that she is today, just like Hillary Clinton, she has gone through phases in her life that only strong women can come through making them stronger. nights they felt lonely, days they wanted to give up, days they felt like they where single moms, days of possibly wanting to end their lives.
Both women are very independent and that's what strikes me the most about them, even though I believe Hillary faked her marital strength, she has shown young women how to be strong, given young women and older women hope, she has set a role for women all over the world to follow.
If there is nothing else we can credit them for, the hope(false or real) they have given women, let us hope the women dont snap out of it if its false :o

A Nice Woman, but...
Cindy says that she always knew that her husband would "put country first." In my opinion, if a man can't keep tabs on his own family, he has no business running the country. If he can't cope with a small group of people under his leadership and authority, how can he lead the entire population of the United States? I don't know all of the circumstances, but he started seeing Cindy before he was divorced. Quite frankly, I wouldn't have been so excited at a married man paying his attentions to my daughter as the Hensleys seemed to be. As a few people have pointed out, including Parapluie, McCain made vows to his first wife, and it didn't seem like he made that much of an effort to make the marriage work. Aside from the inference (or am I reading into it) that he didn't want to be with his permanently INJURED wife anymore and wanted to "reclaim" his life (isn't she the life he was missing out on as a POW?), part of the vows I'm assuming he made is that he would be true to the person he was marrying in sickness and in health as long as they both were alive -- Carol Shepp was definitely alive. His first wife is referenced as saying she didn't "blame" him for essentially wanting to be something that he's not (referring to his age) and seemingly looking for greener pasture. If a man can't stay true and keep his promise to one other person, how can he expect to keep his promises to an entire nation?
Back to Cindy: She obviously has a lot going on, and I can understand her wanting to keep her and her family's privacy, but she can't expect much of it on the campaign trail or if her husband gets elected to office. In that respect, I think we as a nation need to reevaluate the degree to which our media delves into people's personal lives when they attain celebrity. Other bloggers have even admitted they read far too much celebrity gossip. Why do we perpetuate this invasion of privacy? How much is too much? Why was there so much press on her visit to Vietnam that Cindy became, in her own words, a "distraction"? It doesn't seem like it helped very much, except I guess we can credit the media with the information about Cindy and that poor woman and her baby in Vietnam. Like LANEUVIEMEROBE, I wonder what ever happened to them. Perhaps the most compelling part of the article, the end of that particular story is left hanging, seemingly irrelevant for Newsweek's purposes. That leads me to believe it was an unsuccessful operation -- but was it? Why not say so?
One more thing -- why on earth do they have "family" recipes on the Campaign website to begin with?
The Cindy McCain Issue
As I was reading, what jumped out most was the repetition of Cindy facing a hardship and overcoming it without the assistance of her husband. Miscarriages, stroke, and raising children near single-handedly are all pertinent examples. This unquestionably demonstrates that she is a formidable woman with a lot of drive and ambition. This doesn't mean, however, that she's not human. The article also lists instances when she broke down in tears or wavered from being so driven. Being away from a husband, raising children virtually alone, and especially suffering a stroke will undeniably take a huge toll on anyone. Protection of her children, as is the case for almost all mothers, seems paramount for Cindy. Having some of them join the military just has to add stress on top of all that other stuff. As I've been learning, letting a child go and do something potentially dangerous is something that a lot of mothers fear most. Whatever happens with Cindy, though, she seems to get herself together and make a strong comeback according to the article. While it presents wholesome information, detailing both Cindy's accomplishments and failings, it definitely favors her triumphs and puts a twist on her shortcomings that raises her to nobility.

hellooooooo.
ohh, and i hate capital letters.
Allow me to introduce myself...
I come from a family with very decided political opinions -- not necessarily in harmony with either of the prevailing Republican or Democratic parties. I believe that you should vote for the best person for the job regardless of race or gender. However, in my opinion, this upcoming election doesn't offer any promising candidates.
i love/hate cindy mccain
reflecting on this article and the fact the mrs. mccain and i are currently number one on each other's top eight, i have to wonder whether i truly like her or really just hate her with the power of a thousand suns. i mean come on. for every negative aspect in her life in the spot light so far, two awesome, amazing facts were spoken about her. is it shady that they just wrote a whole article on her life in the spotlight starting from the moment her and john mccain met to all of her lows and illnesses. i feel as though since they gave us such an array of good and bad information in this article, there has to be some more hidden dirt on her that even i don't know. obviously this article is a publicity stunt for the united states to read and feel connected to her, just like i did. but my opinion = don't believe it. if they felt the need to talk her up this much in one article, there must be some pretty juicy stuff being covered up. why else would she keep reiterating that she wants nothing to do with the media? huh huh?
Hola!
Cindy McCain is a glorified Pill Popper.
John McCain is a big supporter in the drug war. He advocates stricter drug penalties, laws and enforcement against drug sellers. Obviously McCain also supports family values. Yet if John and Cindy McCain were regular 'Joe Schmos', they might not have a family at all. McCain's lack of concern for street drug users contrasts sharply with the support and understanding his wife received. How is that fair?
Mrs. McCain
Furthermore, I think it is refreshing to hear of someone in such a special position (potential first lady) who hasn’t had a perfect life like TV makes it seem. She’s had her stuggles and she has had her share of ups and downs. I feel like that makes her seem more relatable.
Overall, the article really just tears me down the middle.
Introduction
Political Apathy
Moreover, since WWII the corruption within the upper echelons of government has facilitated all of America’s imperialist actions. The catalyst of this corruption is the world energy crisis. Peak Oil (google it) is real and in order to secure America’s dominance in the future America must control ALL the energy sources. Ever wonder why we are really in Iraq? Ever wonder why we are really in Afghanistan? If you believe it is because we want to liberate other cultures and prosecute terrorists, you are wrong. Isn’t it interesting that Japan was going to surrender weeks before we dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Isn’t it funny that last year in Mexico a C-130 aircraft went down and on board they found 500 tons of cocaine along with 3 dead CIA operatives? Important economic and strategic decision made for the country are usually not specifially good for the whole country at that time, they are usually part of a bigger scheme. What they don’t report on in the mainstream media is the money laundering on Wall Street, the CIA drug trafficking enterprise (which is a $600-$700 billion dollar a year empire) or Dick Cheney’s connections with Brown & Root and Halliburton’s dominance in the Middle East. Do some research and you'll find that 'The CIA is Wall Street, and Drug Money is King.' All im saying is that if you are interested in politics don’t listen to the biased media, educate yourself through books and learn the real stories and history which dictate the course of world history and power.
Cindy McCain, next first lady?
I mean Cindy is his second wife. I have nothing against divorces who remarry, but wouldn't a good family man/husband try to resolve his problems with his spouse or any other problems in the house. Maybe his first wife wasn't as strong as Cindy, and she couldn't stand raising a family by herself; but I believe that if a man vows "to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part" to a woman, both sides should work very hard to try to stay in the marriage. It seems as though John McCain didn't really try to work on his marriage with his first wife. He started seeing Cindy before he got divorced. I don't know if I would want the next president to not try as hard as he should at issues that need to be solved.
Cindy should have expected the attention that is given to her and her family since her husband is a politician, especially as a candidate for presidency. Every action that they make counts because the public will always compare these actions to how John McCain would act as the President. Also because his family can greatly affect his decisions on issues that the country are facing.
Overall, I have a lot of respect for Cindy McCain for staying strong all these years serving the community and being a good wife and mother. She is a very supportive person and if I were in her position, I would've probably stuck to my addiction or just left my husband.
HELLO
This is my intro post. Bare with me I am still trying to figure out this site. I am a fashion design major. I currently live in the city for school but I call South Jersey home. I am sophomore who wishes she did not have school in the summer but is getting used to it. I took an ap politics and government class in highschool but barely know much about current events. I look forward to seeing where this blogs takes us.
Salut!
I look forward to reading everyone's opinions in the next couple of weeks!!!
On... Cindy McCain
Mrs. McCain is described as knowing that her husband would "put country first" when she married him and does not resent him for that. I have always believed that when you marry or become seriously involved with someone in the military you have to expect that EVENTUALLY they will be called away, may be gone for a while and will be in harm's way. If your spouse/significant other is career-driven, you have to expect that pretty much everything they do is about their career. You have the opportunity from the beginning to decide if you can be in a relationship where you may end up spending a lot of time on your own. It is too bad that he was not there when she suffered the two miscarriages, but she was not alone. She was living not too far from her family so she had support. Will it make him seem uncaring to some people? Definitely. Does it mean he cannot lead? No.
What I find interesting is that she has had a pretty privileged life as a military wife. She has not had to move nearly as much as most military wives have had to. All she has had to do was cope with living in WASHINGTON (and I am sure in pretty nice quarters, not the base quarters that most military wives have to make due with). She did not like it so left to go back to Arizona. I wonder how many other military wives would LOOOOVE to be able to leave because they hate base life, but stick it out. That would be something to read about! The article states that Mrs. McCain "... quite persuasively" says she would be happy to move back to Washington if her husband were elected president. If she hated Washington before, does she really think she is going to like it any more now? Washington has not changed. I think she is smart enough to know that if she wants to see her husband elected, she has to watch things/statements like that because of the potential backlash to her husband's campaign. Of course, it should not matter to me (or any of us) whether or not Cindy McCain likes or dislikes Washington, DC because it has no real bearing on her husband's ability to lead, but stuff like this is what rules the news, political talk shows... and blogs.
In Search of Cindy McCain
For instance I believe when people read this article about Cindy McCain and are compelled to vote for her husband for the things she endured and preserved through is ridiculous, how does that reflect on how good of a president John McCain can be? Sure, she has been through three miscarriages, a stroke, sending her child off to war, adopting a baby with severe cleft palate, and a drug addiction, but where was her husband in all this (you know the person who actually might be running the country). Oh right, he was in
ALIAS2324
I am a fourth year student who transferred in when I was a freshman, and I need to make up three courses in the English department. This class caught my attention because it was a hybrid of in class learning and utilizing the internet for the other half. Unfortunately, I too grew up down at the Jersey shore (and classes in the summer is something you never get used to) yet I still chose at my own free will to take six classes in hopes to make my senior year a little less chaotic.
When school and working part time does not consume my life completely, I enjoy all sports playing or watching, spending time with my family and friends, and meeting new people. I have ADD (non-medicated) so my attention span is lacking. I have a very open mind and enjoy experiencing new things. I also try to be somewhat up date with politics; however I have yet to finalize my candidate for the upcoming election. I believe since I voted republican in 2004 I am automatically viewed as voting that way again, but I was a big fan of the Hillary Campaign, so hopefully this class can help me sway one way or the other.
McCain?
The post is a little confusing in that first Cindy McCain is painted as the good housewife who stays at home in Arizona for the sake of the children, while patriarch John McCain has the freedom to pursue his military and political careers. Further down the articile, the author describes Cindy’s many good works which are spoiled by an addiction to painkillers. When it’s said that John had no clue about the problem it kind of paints the senator as neglectful of his wife’s needs. If this article was meant to build up the determination and worth of the McCain’s, it’s a strange approach: saying all the bad things then explaining how wonderful they are for learning from it.
Even though Cindy is pictured as a struggling victim of politics and the role as a wife etc, and AT1744 touched on this before, there are moments where it’s just too corny. On page page 4 where it starts “Last week in Vietnam…” there is a section just about how Cindy helped another woman with a child born with a deformity.
“Ditching her handlers, she went over to talk with [a woman holding a newborn with a severely cleft palate]. "Where's the interpreter?" Cindy demanded.”
The whole paragraph is dedicated to Cindy’s good character since she convinced the doctors to operate on the child even though doctors feared the newborn would go into cardiac arrest. What’s even hidden about this shining bit is that they never actually mention the results of the operation.

Introducing...
I took this class to learn more about blogging and the world's current infatuation with it (and because, 'McCann is the ... man!'). I am also hoping to learn more about the two candidates. Every election year I say that I am going to learn as much as I can about the candidates and the REAL issues but, real life steps in and I end up choosing the lesser of two evils. Part of me thinks that is what our electoral process has been broken down to over that last few decades but then again, maybe it has ALWAYS been that way. I am hoping that the work we do in this class will help me become a TRULY-informed voter.
Good luck to all and I look forward to blogging with you this term!!

First Post
It's been years since I've been out blogging. DIGM just completely consumes life. It feeds on it, runs on it; its success depends entirely on total, unwavering fidelity. For those of you not familiar with DIGM, it's an acronym for Digital Media, and used in present context, not only describes a major, but a way of life.
I'm a DIGM major student, and strive against the widely stereotypical computer-geek way of life. Although I enjoy TV, movies, and video games, the measure by which I indulge is minimal. I find working, being outside, and learning new skills to be far more rewarding. The one DIGM behavior which inescapably defines me is being able to go for extended periods of time without sleep. This past term, I broke my old record of sixty-eight hours and raised the bar to EIGHTY-EIGHT CONSECUTIVE HOURS, NO SLEEP, NO CAFFEINE! Take that, DIGM!

Politics, Apathy, & Nothing In Between
Hi everyone
Hi
I'm kind of new to this whole blog concept so if I do this wrong somehow please bare with me. I would like to think that I know a little bit about the recent issues and all with this election but I am also looking forward to getting a little outside opinion from others so that I may get an even better concept of both sides of the election. Good luck all in this class and I hope to have a much broader sense of politics after this class is over.

Thanks for the intros and getting us going - the names/aliases are great.
Ello!
Hello All
Hello all,
LaNeuviemeRobe here, first of the introductions. I’m a Central Pennsylvanian now a Drexel student in Philly. Dance and theater are my game, more so the first than the second. In fact, I’ll be performing in a military themed piece in this year’s Philly Fringe Festival. I’m a liberal thinker but I’ll admit that I’ve never followed politics very closely. Looking forward to learning more before the big vote.
