Choose 08...intro...

They always say, "this is the most important blah blah of our time."

Well maybe it is, and maybe it isn't. But this team of Drexel University students will get into it summer of 2008 (while we're not at the beach, or soaking up the free AC at the library)...

Get into IT.

Into the nooks and crannies, the issues the media has forgotten because a cat got stuck in a tree, or a congressman was caught with his pants down.

Issues not invective.

20 something voices start June 24th.

White Flight

This blog entry was a trying one because I do not like horror movies. I never have. Seeing people getting their heads chopped off by someone who we all know died 25 years ago (... or did he?) does not interest me. I do not see the social commentary they aupposedly address. I just think they are gross and ridiculous. Here is my movie pitch:

Inspiration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F12ndQmmdc0

Genre: Thriller
Logline: A high-ranking Cabinet official finds the real reason behind the reduction in the White population in America.

Synopsis: Barack Obama successfully completes his bid to become the first non-White president of the United States. America sees several other non-White candidates (Shiro Kira, Muzungu Mauaji Ya Halaiki, Saphedi Hatyara to name a few) become president. The political landscape in America is not all that is changing - America is changing. Whites are now truly the minority. Some noticed a reduction in the population after former President Obama's second term. News reports attribute the decline in the White population to 'White flight' - Whites leaving America for Europe, Canada and other parts of the world in outrage over the 'darkening of America'. Only with each successive non-White president, the numbers of Whites in America has decreased even more.

This begins to concern Marie Guardiere, a high-ranking Cabinet official. She has discovered that White population is now down to only twenty-five percent in the United States. What is worst is that there have been no surges in population in any of the countries where Whites are reported to have fled. In fact, she is noticing that the White population in those countries is dwindling as well.

Marie soon learns that White flight does exist, but it is much more sinister than she could have ever imagined.

I have to admit when I first read this I found it pretty funny. It definitely stuck out in the group. I originally didn't see horror movie until obviously the very end. Even then there isn’t much horror because we don’t know what is happening to the people just yet. Maybe they are all hiding in caves. I read that you are not really into horror movies which I am not either. I can see it as a suspenseful movie. Unfortunately I feel some people would find the movie some what offensive but I still find it pretty interesting. I would leave the theater asking, “Where did all the white people go”? It leaves the option for a sequel which is essential for horror flicks. I enjoyed reading your pitch!

I didn't find this idea funny, but definitely a thriller-type, which is fine by me because I too loathe Horror Films. I think I may have seen only one, King of the Zombies, but that was from the 30s I think, so although I screamed, it was probably not that scary. This term in our film program there is a cinema studies class called "The Horror Film" that a lot of my friends are taking. I say, "No thanks!" Your pitch has a good twist to it in that nothing is as it seems...

Thanks for the comments. Since I do not like or watch horror films, I knew I needed to come up with a pitch that satisfied the assignment but I also wanted something that I could be happy with. Whenever I have assignments that are difficult for me, I try to think 'out of the box'. My hope was to write the pitch, itself, in such a way that it would make people ask questions like "Where did all the White people go?" Hopefully, I will get more questions.

Where did all the White people go? :-p

This actually reminds me a lot of what has happened in SouthEast Pennsylvania. The non-white population has been moving from the city to the suburbs as of late (I know at least in NE Phila this is especially true) and the white people keep on moving and moving farther into bumblefuck (in this case Bucks County). As the non-white community keeps moving into the "white territory" is seems that the whites will either keep moving farther away (and some will end up moving back into the city). I don't know what this has to do with anything but it's just something that I have noticed and I just wish that people would be able to integrate.
