After reading both articles and trying to understand the connection between all horror movies and women seemed quite ridiculous. When they were trying to prove the theory for the root of all evil correlates back to the women is just absurd. It is funny how when a topic comes about, people try to relate the specific topic ironically back into the story, as if symbolism is the only dominant aspect in any movie. I am not trying to dismiss all occurrences of symbolism in movies, but I thought the reviews were being too extreme and reaching a bit too far. For instance when 9-11 happened, everyone someone miraculously believed the direct correlation came from the date and our 9-1-1 our emergency phone number…ironic. Or most people know the one if you fold a dollar bill in an exact way, it looks as if two towers are on fire. Or with Nostradamus when he predicted somehow events that would ultimately lead to Armageddon. Again, twisting words or ideas can promote any such idea into a semi-factual instance, as if all the above instances were deliberately developed on future events. What I am getting at is sure women play a large role as characters in thriller movies who “both literally and figuratively gave birth to all the horror”; however all the women roles in the article were chosen too perfect to help display and manipulate their thesis. They could have also tried to prove how young, sex-driven, easily-influenced white men are always the actual murderer (every Scream movie, Freddie, etc).
On another note, I do not want this statement to convey my stance on horror movies. I myself am a huge fan and have loved every movie that was discussed in the articles. I just believe people are looking too hard to see connections, just let the movies be what they are, sick entertainment.
Choose 08...intro...
They always say, "this is the most important blah blah of our time."
Well maybe it is, and maybe it isn't. But this team of Drexel University students will get into it summer of 2008 (while we're not at the beach, or soaking up the free AC at the library)...
Get into IT.
Into the nooks and crannies, the issues the media has forgotten because a cat got stuck in a tree, or a congressman was caught with his pants down.
Issues not invective.

Although I found the articles to gives very interesting takes on horror films, I agree with what ALIAS2324 in that these films should simply be what they are meant to be, "sick entertainment." These films are being produced at such a rapid pace that I find it highly unlikely for a truly artistically creative film to be developed in such a short time span. I don't recall any horror film winning prominent awards and so I feel that many of these films are being overanalyzed. Some things are meant to be simply enjoyed instead of meticulously dissected.
