Singer makes very good points of how if every one donated to a certain cause than the life of many would be improved. He gives real life examples of how you can put yourself in the shoes of people who are given the choice to save a child’s life or save their financial future. He also makes a good point when he says that when people do not donate it is because they never know if the actual donation makes it to the person in need. I believe that is the main obstacle when it comes to donations. People are more willing to give money to causes who stand out front of Walmarts or Supermarkets because they can actually see the person who will benefit from their good doing. When you send money away to different children charities, you never know if your donation actually makes it to where it needs to go.
Another point is out of mind out of sight. It is hard for people to help when they don’t see the outcome of helping someone else. When you send money away in the typical “Save the Children” charity, you never fully understand if your donation really did help the person at need. Also it is hard to guarantee that child’s safety, when the cultural aspects also disturb the child’s well being. The money sent surely can help with the minor aspects of life, but what about after that, the child still will be living in a third world country where danger resides right at home. It is hard for people who come from a good background and have a stable job to justify the $200 dollars, because saving a child’s life from these third world countries has to be more than just food and health benefits. In order for the child to be saved completely the person would have to help them relocate or even adopt the child themselves, which makes the charity much more than a $200 donation.

They always say, "this is the most important blah blah of our time."
Well maybe it is, and maybe it isn't. But this team of Drexel University students will get into it summer of 2008 (while we're not at the beach, or soaking up the free AC at the library)...
Get into IT.
Into the nooks and crannies, the issues the media has forgotten because a cat got stuck in a tree, or a congressman was caught with his pants down.
Issues not invective.
